Mark P Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Since I don't know what it is I did not know what forum to use.... Anyway not a big deal, but am just wondering if anyone can tell me what this is. It was on the front, next to garage, of a solid brick home built in 1958. The on/off toggle was stuck, I tried to remove the 4 screws to have a peak inside, but the screws did not cooperate. Download Attachment: 1.jpg 66.02 KB

MelB Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Scott, It's not an on/off switch, it's the choke. There should have been a 'start' button next to it, or if it's a really old house, a hand crank.
Les Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Kids! It is from the old days when everything was a plunger.
Erby Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 It's a float switch. When the water pushes that metal thingymadoo up, it turns the pump on. When the water no longer holds up the metal thingymadoo, it drops, shutting off the pump.
