Scottpat Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Has anyone used the 1028 yet? How is it? Also what do y'all use for a case to carry the machine in? I know that SN sells one, but I'm curious as to what most are using. I thought about getting a Pelican case to hold the machines. Just trying to find out what most are doing as I need to purchase a couple soon.
Les Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Scott, We have been using a hard side alum case with foam insert fromn Harbor Freight for abt 5yrs now and really like them. They are abt $14 each and we have yet to wear one out. We leave the case right under the step ladder on-site. In the tradition of the "same hamburger" we have a routine that includes a 2' step ladder and blue tape the device on the top of it. Have not used the 1028 yet, but have to upgrade 5-6 devices this fall and thought I would try to squeeze a better price at ITA.
Terence McCann Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I still use the 1027(s) and have had no problems with them. Also, I use the case that SN sells. I really like the features of the 1029 but 1,500.00 is a wee bit to high (by about 1,000.00).
paul burrell Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Just curious. What percentage of homes tested for radon are positive and require remediation. Paul B.
wingfoot Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Paul, I might be able to send you some percentages from our testing by email that our company has compiled for metro Atlanta. Typically, in your neck of the woods, the readings are higher than we get on the south side. I'll dig around and see what I can find. By the way you can go to epa.gov and follow the radon link and pull up a map of the U.S. and see where it is high.

Stone Mountain supposedly the largest exposed chunk of granite in the world covers a large area in my neck of the woods. It is also underground with out croppings for literally miles and miles. That may have something to do with radon, don't know. I do know some areas have a heck of a time digging a foundation. Paul B.
Scottpat Posted August 10, 2006 Author Report Posted August 10, 2006 I spoke with Sun Nuclear today and they said that the 1028 & 1029 will not go into production until mid September. They are still working on getting them certified through NEHA/NRPP. The 1027 machine is in stock and shipping.
Les Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 As I understand it, SN does not have certs for the 1027 at this time, seems the paperwork was done wrong. We are using another lab for calibration temporarily.

Les Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Better check with NEHA/NRPP when you send in your paperwork.
Scottpat Posted August 12, 2006 Author Report Posted August 12, 2006 When I spoke with SN they said it was the 1028 and 1029 that they were have trouble getting the certifications on. This is the reason they have been delayed.
kshepard Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 I think the 1027 that's shipping now is the one without a USB connection (1028 and 1029 will have that and much more capability, worth waiting for). New laptops don't have a parallel port anymore so you have to buy an adapter. They told me for to six weeks this past tuesday.

Robert E Lee Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I realize this is an topic was addressed a year or so ago, but I am looking at getting a couple of the Sun Nuclear 1028's. I believe they are readily available now, so, how have these units worked compared to the 1027's that have been around for several years? Have they now been certified by the NEHA/NRPP? I have been testing with E-Perm units that I buy from a local lab and beginning to get tired to running to and from the lab with every radon test. Thanks in advance for the info. Robert E Lee Rochester, MN
Scottpat Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 The 1027's are still being made and from what I understand they are still outselling the newer units. They are smaller, way less in price and the work very well.
Les Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Shoot, I still have a couple 1025's - the four light model with level indicator. I never did buy any 1028's, just could not pencil it out!
