Marc Posted September 10, 2022 Report Posted September 10, 2022 (edited) Found the new employee of our framing team living in the basement of the house we were building early one morning. Turns out he was homeless. Up until then, we weren't sure where he was going when he walked off into the streets each day after work. Boss fired him on the spot. He was a good helper. The photo reminded me of him. No, he wasn't sleeping between unfaced batts. Edited September 11, 2022 by Marc

Jim Baird Posted September 13, 2022 Report Posted September 13, 2022 ...when I worked part time for a local AHJ the county's new planner was found to be sleeping under his desk because he had no place to live.

He was fired for being homeless?

ejager Posted September 24, 2022 Report Posted September 24, 2022 So, -it was a construction site, he did no damage, he was a good worker, -his crime: survival. He wasn't stealing services, he wasn't stealing tools or materials, he wasn't stealing time. He did not have a bed of his own, his perceived best option? A place most of would not even consider resting our head. -he was not told to move, he was not offered help, he was not connected with services, kindness or compassion. No hand up, no offer of a couch or even a backyard tent til he could get his feet back under him. -he was fired. No second chances. You're homeless, we're scared/ashamed, you're fired.
Marc Posted September 24, 2022 Report Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) I sympathize with the guy, but had the client caught him before we did, it could have cost all 4 of us about 2 weeks of income. We were framers, it's all we did. Edited September 24, 2022 by Marc
