John Dirks Jr Posted April 8, 2022 Report Posted April 8, 2022 Do the manufacturers allow these things to be installed within the panel enclosure? Even if they do, I think its a bad location since you cannot easily monitor the status unless you remove the cover. I wrote it up and recommended having it moved outside of the panel.
Bill Kibbel Posted April 8, 2022 Report Posted April 8, 2022 If the device doesn't install like a breaker, the manufacturers call them external mount.
Trent Tarter Posted April 10, 2022 Report Posted April 10, 2022 That's how they install them where I live.

If you mean that they install them inside the panel enclosure where you live, then it's wrong. Doesn't matter if that's "how they do it." The manufacturer requires them to be outside the enclosure.

I make a mistake, the surge protectors I have been seeing on new construction are the internal type that snap into the bus bar.
