That's really interesting -- but I don't think an apostrophe is the real problem here.

Those apostrophes can be expensive. 

Somehow, this brings Calvin Trillin to mind. The Nation used to pay him a flat rate of $100 per poem, so he wrote the shortest possible poems in order to make the most money per word.
