Identify this stuff please

I see this old duct tape all the time, but it's not asbestos is it?

It appears to be Chrysotile, usually 30-40% asbestos content.

"Asbestos wrapped" ducts - originally connected to a coal-fired octopus furnace.

all of the above. we see it on nearly all octopus furnaces regardless of fuel used.
