Jim Katen Posted December 15, 2018 Report Posted December 15, 2018 That's brilliant and for about 4K a cheap little balcony. Leave it to Velux.
Tom Raymond Posted December 15, 2018 Report Posted December 15, 2018 These have been around for a while. At least since 1990. And yes. Very cool.
Jim Katen Posted December 16, 2018 Report Posted December 16, 2018 Any idea why we don't see them more often? (or at all)
John Kogel Posted December 17, 2018 Report Posted December 17, 2018 Doh! Those things are bound to leak as well, or just get left open in a rainstorm. Could be rigged to close itself with motors and sensors. Then again, why not build a permanent weathertight dormer?
Bill Kibbel Posted December 17, 2018 Report Posted December 17, 2018 I've seen quite a few in the UK. Don't know why so few here.

I don't see why they'd be bound to leak more than any other openable Velux skylight. Velux products are usually pretty good in that regard. I suspect that you couldn't build a dormer for anything close to the cost of one of these.
