Mike Lamb Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 Is there a reason why a framing carpenter would do this other than they ran out of long pieces of lumber? The roofs were sagging at these locations.
Marc Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 (edited) Inept contractor. 'I couldn't install any ridge supports because there wasn't a load-bearing wall below it'. 'Homeowner didn't want to pay enough to do it right.' Speeds up the job. Homeowner won't know it's wrong until I'm out the door with the check. Edited August 28, 2017 by Marc
Jim Baird Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 "Creative" framer with payday approaching and short on needed lengths.
Tom Raymond Posted September 3, 2017 Report Posted September 3, 2017 The house I framed last summer actually had that detail in the plans. Horrible idea. We omitted it.
Mike Lamb Posted December 3, 2017 Author Report Posted December 3, 2017 Here is and another example of the same although this makes more sense as the rafters are downsized. It is a 30-year-old house and there was no noticeable sag.
