Raceway in cabinet?

Are there any requirements for a raceway/conduit inside a kitchen cabinet over exposed wiring? Definetly recommending it regardless, but can't find the code in reference if there is one?

I think there is a comment in your NEC about protection from damage. It needs protection in that location.

They sell a 6 foot length of plastic tube conduit at Lowes for just a few bucks, so no excuses.

I've looked before in older editions of the NEC and never could find it.  I always write it up and suggest installing the NM within greenfield.

That is what we call exposed NM.  It is not rated for exposure to physical damage.

I think what you're looking for is in 334.15(B): 

Quote

(B) Protection from Physical Damage. Cable shall be protected from physical damage where necessary by rigid metal conduit, intermediate metal conduit, electrical metallic tubing, schedule 80 PVC conduit, or other approved means. Where passing through a floor, the cable shall be enclosed in rigid metal conduit, intermediate metal conduit, electrical metallic tubing, Schedule 80 PVC conduit, or other approved means extending at least 150 mm (6 in.) above the floor.

There's nothing wrong with having NM cable simply "exposed," but it's not supposed to be exposed to damage.

Sure enough, junk will be shoved in there and the run will be forgotten. Over time, it'll look like a mouse chewed on it.
