Gas Water Heater Clearance

Question, does anyone know what the draft hood clearance should be for a gas fired WH from combustibles? Found an attic install today where the draft hood was 5" from the roof decking. I know about the 1" rule on the flue, but can't find anything specific about the top clearances. Thanks folks!

I can't imagine how the draft hood could be so close to the roof; there would barely be any room for a flue. I would consider the draft hood the same as a single wall flue- six inches of clearance. There is also the required clearance from the top of the heater itself, which I believe is twelve twelve inches.

All of the clearances are printed on the newer water heaters.
