John Dirks Jr Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 I've never seen this stuff before. It was in an early 70's duplex in central MD. It appears to be a fiberglass mat of sorts. Each strip was about 3/4" thick and 8" wide. Does this stuff have a name? What is it? Click to Enlarge 49.89 KB
John Dirks Jr Posted February 20, 2017 Author Report Posted February 20, 2017 Could this be the stuff chimney guys use to seal gaps in fireplaces and flues?
Bill Kibbel Posted February 20, 2017 Report Posted February 20, 2017 It looks like ceramic fiber insulation - for industrial furnaces, boiler linings, kilns. Maybe Kaowoo or Unitherm.
John Dirks Jr Posted February 20, 2017 Author Report Posted February 20, 2017 Thanks Bill. I googled those names you listed and the pictures I see look very similar. The stuff was laid out in there overlapped and two layers thick. It was laid on top of a 3" fiberglass batt.
