Mike Lamb Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 This was the electric panel for a large 1951 or 1957 condo ? the age is little fuzzy ? building. There is a switch next to a fuse. I know the fuses killed power to the condo unit but I did not mess with the switches to see what they do. This probably also opens the circuit? What is the sense of that? Anybody familiar at all? John Kogel Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 I think we are looking at fused disconnects.
Marc Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 I think we are looking at fused disconnects. That's my swag. Immediate predecessor to thermal magnetic breakers? Marc
Jim Katen Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 I think we are looking at fused disconnects. Exactly. The switches turn power to each circuit on and off and the fuses provide overcurrent protection. We're so used to circuit breakers that do both things that we forget that wasn't always the case.
