John Dirks Jr Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I saw this for a first time today. It responds with an audible alarm when the GFI is tripped. This one was for a sump pump which makes sense to have an alarm. Click to Enlarge 23.7 KB
kurt Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Never seen one. Makes sense for the freezer in the garage or a sump.
Nolan Kienitz Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 Or the fridge in the garage keeping the beer cool!!!
John Dirks Jr Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 So now we need to look for speaker symbols on gfi's. If it has a speaker symbol but does not present audible alarm, write it up. There's a new boiler plate comment for your library.
Mark P Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 I replaced one of my kitchen GFCI with one that includes built in nightlight.
Rob Amaral Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around.. does it make a sound though??? This thing is not gonna help much when the folks aren't home... right?
Jim Baird Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 ...soon we will be able to program our GFCI alarms with audio clips to our liking with our phones... Rob, if we are not home then our GFCI alarm devices will just call us with any important news, right?

So, if it trips when your at work, you'll hear it when you come home and fix it before a problem happens.
Scottpat Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 I can see (hear) it now! You trip that GFCI and you can never find it but you hear it under the master bathroom tub that is all tiled up! Yep, it could be handy!
Tom Raymond Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 I would really just like devices that work. In the last year I have had GFCIs that trip once and won't reset, break into pieces when the terminals are torqued to spec, randomly trip for months then suddenly stop, and identical devices side by side where one lights green when it's on and the other when it's tripped. How can we build a better device when we can't produce one year works in the first place?
