Denray Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 The two sub panels are just below the main. They can't be set up like mains themselves, right? Click to Enlarge 39.21 KB Click to Enlarge 37.22 KB Click to Enlarge 44.76 KB Was this allowed at one time?
Marc Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 Never seen that type of meter box before. Looks like a combo meter/main panel that's common here on mobile home services but I haven't seen a duplex version until now. I'm familiar with the commercial meter banks that have individual disconnects past each meter. The two panels are subs, most likely. They're not mains because the main disconnects are in the meter box. That's just my swag. Marc
Denray Posted January 15, 2016 Author Report Posted January 15, 2016 Is it OK for those subs to be set up that way, or not? What could go wrong?
Marc Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 No. I don't think so. Two more cables on the meter neutral bar are needed, this time as EGC's, one to each sub-panel. Separate neutrals from EGC's within each sub, bond the enclosures, et cetera. What could go wrong is that neutral currents coming in from the house to the neutral bus bars on either sub could find their way to the meter box via the path provided by the enclosures and the conduit between sub and meter box. Neutral currents should be restricted to neutral conductors. Marc
Jim Katen Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 Are those metal nipples between the meter/main and the panels?
