In-Shot Furnace Flame

How much flame roll out is OK with an in-shot furnace? Should all the flame shoot down the burner port? I have written up a couple lately that seemed excessive but I'm not exactly sure what excessive is.

I think you're looking at the ignition line. There's gotta be a way for the flame to engage down the line.

I don't know if there's specific terminology for that area, but it's on every furnace I see.

I call it the crossover flame. But it doesn't usually look that big.

Crossover/ carryover flame. It's hard to tell from a picture.... Those burners can be replaced within a minute or two if it's actually an issue, which I doubt.

If it rolls way out and makes a big boom when it fires up start looking for a cracked heat exchanger.
