Denray Posted September 4, 2015 Author Report Posted September 4, 2015 The siding is all vinyl. Is the roof vinyl?
Denray Posted September 4, 2015 Author Report Posted September 4, 2015 Seems to be in very good condition. It's an estate sale, so I do not know how old the roof is. I'm guessing PVC, but I'll just call it plastic in my report.
brric Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 Seems to me a responsible report would be "unknown", not just a guess.
Denray Posted September 4, 2015 Author Report Posted September 4, 2015 Vinyl, PVC, TPO are all forms of plastic. It wasn't EPDM.
mlparham Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 What did it feel like? Did it have granules.
Jim Katen Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 I've seen it once before. I ran it by a few roofers who work with TPO and PVC and none recognized it. I listed it as "plastic single ply membrane" in my report. The stuff I saw had a grey layer of plastic on the bottom, a layer of scrim, and then a white layer of plastic on the top. All of the seams were solvent welded - some quite poorly. It could have been PVC or TPO - there's just no way to tell. Of course, its most striking feature is the stunningly realistic image of shingles that's printed on it. During the inspection, while discussing the roof with the buyers, they asked what it was made from. I told them that it was a special plastic that was formulated out of sap from the Ugly Tree. Fortunately, they thought this was funny. Click to Enlarge 56.7 KB Click to Enlarge 54.74 KB
Trent Tarter Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 I just inspected a single wide with the same type of material. I just call it "single ply plastic membrane". Real strange to see it on home of that size with a decent roof pitch.
Rob Amaral Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Ya learn something every day... !
Bill Kibbel Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Denny's pics looks like DuroLast, which is PVC.
Denray Posted September 5, 2015 Author Report Posted September 5, 2015 Yep, went to their site. DuroLast it is. PVC.
Jim Katen Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 I see a lot of Durolast roofs, and this didn't look like one. Every one that I see uses heat-welded seams and the seams and some of the accessory sections are marked with the Durolast logo and the date.
