Or anyone else that knows something about mortar.....

Would you call this sort of fracturing consistent with too hard mortar? If not, what do you think it is?

Limestone, full load bearing, chapel down @ U of C.

Edge chipping/clipping to limestone is caused by mishandling in transit or installation, impact damage (steps) or Portland cement used for repointing.

Easy to rule out the first 2 and identify Portland in the mortar joints.

That's what I thought, but needed verification.

The chapel did just fine for 100 years, and lately there's been this chipping....not coincidentally a few years after some engineering geniuses pointed the whole place with new mortar.

It's all over the place. It could go tragic.
