I had one like that when I was a teenager in a new HUD-Code. A cloud of steam would rise from the bowl when you flushed it.

Was the hot and cold reversed at the sink or tub as well?

Nope, everything else, including the two other toilets, were fine. I flushed it 3 times to get the temp up to that.

Very common in high class homes - it prevents the toilets from sweating in the summer. Common here.

I think it's an east coast thing. I remember seeing this done in Connecticut, NY, DC, and Vermont.

When you mention this on the west coast, people look at you like you've got lobsters sticking out of your ears.
