Marc Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Can someone point me to the chapter/verse requiring at least one exterior entrance door to open outwards instead of inwards? Thanks. Marc
Chad Fabry Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 I don't think there is anything with regards to residential construction. Out-swing doors do not work in the winter in NY
Marc Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 You seem to be right. I found it in 1008.1.2 of the IBC but found no equivalent in the IRC. Thanks. Marc
Mike Lamb Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 It became code for theaters to have out swinging doors after the Iroquois Theater fire in Chicago in 1903 with 600+ dead. Bodies were found piled up at the doors that all swung inward.

Chad Fabry Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 H=hazard, like dynamite storage facilities.
