John Dirks Jr Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 My wife and I will be driving Lincoln Highway between Gettysburg and Breezewood for day trip and quality time together this week. We like history, interesting shops, restaurants, bars, roadside venders and people with lots of character. I'm sure we'll find interesting things along the way. For those of you familiar with that area, do you have any suggestions for us to consider? Thanks

Bill Kibbel Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 I take as many sections of Rt 30 that I have time for when I go to Pittsburgh. From Breezewood to Chambersburg are the hills that the bikers like but they ride real slow. I wish I had time to explore the little towns between Chambersburg and Gettysburg. Rt 30 bypasses some of the towns where 'Main Street' was really the route of the Lincoln Hwy. Always take 'Old Rt 30'. Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival is mid-August. I probably can't make it this year.
John Dirks Jr Posted July 28, 2015 Author Report Posted July 28, 2015 I study google earth and put waypoints into GPS to keep me on the old routes. We might only make it as far west as McConellsburg on this trip. From there I'll loop back east following Buchanan Trail rt 16 all the way through Emmitsburg MD.
John Dirks Jr Posted July 29, 2015 Author Report Posted July 29, 2015 Driving the yellow car? Yep. Somebody has to wear it out. A '96 with 50k miles on it. Did a rear gear swap and a cam swap. Huge difference in performance. Now it moves like a Vette should.
emalernee Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Google Lincoln Highway Association, maps of the old Road for all states are on the site. The Lincoln BuyWay Yard Sale is coming up on the 13-15 of August and I think our National Convention is being held in Gettysburg next year.
