What do y'all think about front steps being supported by a 2x4 screwed to the brick? No signs of it being secured to the concrete at the bottom. Yes, I know they cut the stringer ugly.

If it's a veneer:

The steps are supported at the top by brickwork. This brickwork is intended as a cosmetic item only and isn't thick enough to absorb structural loads. You should install a couple posts between the slab and the ledger (that 2X4 screwed into the brickwork) to take the load off of the brick before it cracks.

Kurt, I'm so used to it being there it didn't register that the font size changed drastically somehow when I got the new computer a while back.

Thanks for pointing that out.

It was supposed to look like this.
