Inspectorjoe Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 All of the vinyl soffit material in this 18 year old house was like this - most of the perforations were closed. If it's a manufacturing defect, I can't imagine how it would have made it off the line. Anybody else ever see this? Click to Enlarge 29.85 KB Click to Enlarge 20.01 KB Click to Enlarge 23.52 KB
Jim Baird Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 No. Must have been a bad run from the factory...bet the installer got it at steep discount. What I do see all the time is continuous metal soffit vents in plywood soffits that are painted shut.
Inspectorjoe Posted April 2, 2015 Author Report Posted April 2, 2015 When I first saw it from the ground, it looked exactly like it had been painted over.
John Dirks Jr Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 I never thought those panels breathed very well even when they were cut right. Just not much total opening there. Now, if they were actually punched out rather than dimpled, then you'd have some breathing area.
Eric B Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 Those are pretty common here. In my book they're pretty much useless. Anything that can easily block up with airborne particles is bad news. Problem can be that you install good ventilation provisions then someone will squawk about it looks - e.g. they want the soil over the siding so the foundation isn't visible.
Rob Amaral Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Junk... but there is probably a NFVA rating on it somewhere... Americans just love cheap-stuff I guess... it's never ending...
