kurt Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Not bad. Can the ladder extend to the sky without the flanking building parts? I'm a sucker for clean lyrical narratives.
Mike Lamb Posted March 21, 2015 Author Report Posted March 21, 2015 Yes. This would look better staged which I could do in my back yard. I took this when I was going to get on a roof.
John Kogel Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I like the building there to keep it all anchored at the base, safer I guess. If you were going to stage something a couple of circling vultures would be cool.
kurt Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I like the building there to keep it all anchored at the base I'd like to see them evenly balanced if that's the case. Too many conflicting diagonals this way.
Les Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I think Kurt's observations are the elements that make it better. I like it "unbalanced".

Erby Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I think I have no artistic taste. I like it just the way it is, unbalanced, conflicting diagonals and all.
kurt Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 It all depends on the story one is trying to tell. You want a finished composition or a random shot? Each has it's own underlying compositional issues. This subject matter and the elements involved, random is....random. Doesn't feel like the photog was composing. Other subject matter is different; random is good. Depends on what one is trying to say.
Jim Baird Posted March 23, 2015 Report Posted March 23, 2015 ...just like that song, La Bamba, "...to climb into heaven, you need a really big ladder..."
Jim Baird Posted March 23, 2015 Report Posted March 23, 2015 Not bad. Can the ladder extend to the sky without the flanking building parts? I'm a sucker for clean lyrical narratives. ...on the other hand, those building part flanks add a lot of velocity and almost a vertigo to my feeling of the view.
AHI in AR Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Full disclaimer: I suspect that I have virtually NO artistic sensibilities. Formal artistic training of any sort absolutely isn't part of my background. But with that said, I must say that I like it as it is. It seems natural; if the ladder were equally balanced relative to the side walls I would likely sense that it was staged.
Mike Lamb Posted March 25, 2015 Author Report Posted March 25, 2015 Formal artistic training of any sort absolutely isn't part of my background. . Nor mine and it doesn't matter. I will try to stage a ladder to heaven one of theses days when it gets warmer and there's a good sky. Click to Enlarge 25.98 KB
