Old Sailor Posted February 25, 2015 Author Report Posted February 25, 2015 Heck, I might even mention the damage to the protective cover for the thermostat wire along with the other two. Old Sailor Posted February 25, 2015 Author Report Posted February 25, 2015 Ok you guys are not playing fair. What I wrote up of course was the loose seal tight connection to the unit. My main concern was the crimped liquid line from 3/8 on the MFG stub out to the original 1/4 " liquid line to the A-coil. I have one contractor in a City about 50 miles from me that does not understand you can not reduce the MFG recommended size. I have found numerous units just like the one in the PIC

At the risk of starting a debate, "IF" the conditions are right, you can in fact reduce the line set sizes, both liquid and suction. And sometimes a larger line than the stub could be called for, it depends on the installation. The key is you don't just use what is on the truck but rather consult the charts AND the manufacturer instructions. The stub size has little to do with the appropriate line set size. This is so far beyond the scope of a HI that it would never be mentioned in my report but I understand you have a different scope.
