Mike Lamb
I have an old brick chimney which has a new metal liner installed for the furnace and also has the insulated AC line set running up next to it to the roof. I am trying to find the coded reference that says no to this. This is what I have come up with: 1801.4 Space around lining. The space surrounding a flue lining system or other vent installed within a masonry chimney shall not be used to vent any other appliance. This shall not prevent the installation of a separate flue lining in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and this code. Thanks. Marc
I'll bet no code forming committee ever imagined that one day someone would stick an AC line set within a retired masonry flue alongside a metal liner. Don't know of such a code prohibition. Marc
Mike Lamb
Thanks. I went with the single wall vent needing a 6" min. clearance from combustibles. They should have run the line-set up the outside wall which was do-able.
Rob Amaral
....it never ends.. It's amazing how many 'new problem statements' I have to create every week...
