John Dirks Jr Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I carry the small torpedo level. I also had a 4' level that got damaged so I chucked it. I'm going to replace the 4' level. My choice now is, which length do I get? What length level do you think is more useful in this gig? 4' or 6'? Can you give examples where either is preferred? Thanks.
Jim Katen Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 If you ever use the NAHB Residential Construction Performance Guidelines, it will be handy to have a 32" level.
Les Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Jim is right. It is the only level we use. We have some freebie small ones for the dog and pony show.
John Dirks Jr Posted January 22, 2015 Author Report Posted January 22, 2015 Okay, 32" it will be. I'm glad I asked. Is there a particular type or model that is preferred?
Chad Fabry Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Okay, 32" it will be. I'm glad I asked. Is there a particular type or model that is preferred? Can't go wrong with Stabila. That said, the new Fat Max has a rafter hook.
mjr6550 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 I think a 4' is more useful for checking foundation walls and walls that are out of plumb or floors that are out of level. I actually seldom use a level during home inspections but I use levels (including laser levels) for many structural inspections.
caryseidner Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 +1 Stabila, but Craftsman has a lifetime guarantee.
