Robert Jones Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Had this panel yesterday. On the handle it states Federal Pacific. On the label, it states Stab-Lok. However, nothing about this panel looks like an FPE/Stab-Lok. There were two Stab-Lok breakers, but that was it. Is it an FPE/Stab-Lok panel? AHI in AR Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Yep. I've never seen one exactly like it though. May be a later model.
Les Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Quite a variety of things going on in the photo. It is a FPE Stablok.
Nolan Kienitz Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Ditto Les' comment ... lots going on, but it is an FPE. Replace it ...
kurt Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Bus is Stablok. Never seen wafer breakers on a Stablok. Is this a new wrinkle?
John Kogel Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Inspectopedia website shows wafer Stab-Lok breakers. They are bad because Doofus could stab two into one slot. [] Those ones are bright and new. Counterfeits, maybe? Stablok Wafers are not sold up here in Canada.
mjr6550 Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Bus is Stablok. Never seen wafer breakers on a Stablok. Is this a new wrinkle? I have seen many with wafer breakers. It can be fun trying to get the cover back on.
kurt Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 So true. I don't take the cover off anymore. I remember taking off the covers and having all the breakers fall out, and being so dense that it didn't impress on me what a total POS the things were.
allseason Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I don't remove the covers either as it will always shut off at least one breaker. I also had a fellow inspector remove a cover and the main came loose. They just need to be completely replaced anyway, why risk life and limb over that. [:-skull]
Speedy Petey Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Yup, I had that exact 20/40 200A panel in my home when I bought it. I changed it less than a week after moving in, on my dime I might add. Yes, there are companies making legal FPE replacement breakers. Challenger was one I believe. And the skinnys are totally fine. That's the only way to get 40 breakers in that small ass panel.
