Kate Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 I'd be grateful for your opinion on this furnace, thanks! It's for a replacement on a house that in a few years will probably be torn down...
Bill Kibbel Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 If it's the used furnace you were discussing, get the serial number so we can determine the age. Also, find out why it was taken out of service. How is your current furnace vented?
Kate Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 Hi Bill - it's from 2004 and was taken out because the owner had a heat pump installed. My current furnace is that Lennox G8Q3 from 1963 that has the heat exchanger going and is vented up through a stack through the roof. It's still working but I want to have a replacement ready. (Yes I have a CO detector near a heat register) I'm worried that the only on-line reviews on the G60 are negative. Thanks for your thoughts on this!

I've seen a few G60s in the wild and they seem to be just fine. Online reviews of things like furnaces are not of much use. The only time anyone posts such a review is when he or she it having trouble with it. No one goes online to post a positive review of a furnace. I hope that you're not paying much for a 10-year old used furnace.
Brandon Whitmore Posted June 21, 2014 Report Posted June 21, 2014 I'm not aware of any big issues with the G60, and see plenty of them.
Kate Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 Thanks for your reassurances, Bill and Brandon. I saw the furnace demoed yesterday and looked/sounded good. He's asking $450 Cdn which I think is fair. I welcome your comments....! Then it's another $800 to install and make the connecting metal ducts fit.
Bill Kibbel Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Kate, Did the tech do any calculations to determine if the furnace is the correct size for your home? That's probably more important than the brand.
Kate Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 HI Bill, Yes the contractor said this 66,000BTU will be fine for my split level 1700 sq ft house. Anything else I should be asking? I wonder whether there's still any warranty left on this 2004 Lennox?
