kurt Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 FVIR. Could be air intake is restricted. It's certainly not an efficient flame.
Denray Posted January 21, 2014 Author Report Posted January 21, 2014 Thank Kurt. There was one at each side of the duplex. Looked same age, etc. Both flames the same.
Marc Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 You wouldn't have a combustion analyzer hanging around, would you? Marc
mjr6550 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Newer 40 gallon WH. Seems like the flame is too yellow. Whatcha tink? Click to Enlarge 25.93 KB I recall hearing that some brands of water heaters had problems with inlet screens clogging up with dirt. Seems odd to be both units, but could be from similar conditions-construction debris, unvented dryers.
Brandon Whitmore Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 Were the water heaters off when you arrived? If so, and you fired the pilots up and cranked the burners, that's the color you'd get from condensation/ moisture in the burner compartment. Also, if you didn't wait several seconds or so before checking out the burners, then that's the color you would get. The other common issue would of course be the primary air intake "grate" being plugged, as mentioned.
Denray Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 They had both been operating awhile when I had checked them. Seemed weird that they both burned alike. Click to Enlarge 43.18 KB Click to Enlarge 25.04 KB
