AHI in AR Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 I found these 90 degree fittings today on a replacement water heater which was installed earlier this year. They were crimped on, and rather crudely at that. They didn't leak but the overall install didn't look likely to have been done by a pro. The fittings were used on inlet and outlet lines as well as the TPR drain. Ten minutes on Google and I can't find out what they are. Anyone know? And are they done properly? Click to Enlarge 31.99 KB
Bryan Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 You are correct, they are crimp on fittings and require a special, typically power actuated, crimp tool. I typically find these in multi family and more commercial settings.
AHI in AR Posted November 4, 2013 Author Report Posted November 4, 2013 Thanks. So is there an O-ring in that ridged area?
Bryan Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 I believe there would have to be; however, I have never actually handled a fitting. Next time I see one being installed, I will look.
Michael A Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Not to be confused with pre soldered fittings... http://www.presolderedfittings.com/
