AHI in AR Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Does anyone else wonder if the rodent inflicting this damage perished while doing so? Click to Enlarge 66.51 KB
Tom Raymond Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Kind of ineffective as a deterrent.
John Kogel Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 Kind of ineffective as a deterrent. Agreed. Bare wires would get the job done and survive to shock again. Smear them with peanut butter. []
hausdok Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 My theory, 1. Rodent gnawed through the insulation. 2. The exposed copper wiring was touching the wood and reacted with the stuff used to treat the wood. 3. The corroded wiring melted under load and saw sparks. OT - OF!!! M.
AHI in AR Posted November 1, 2013 Author Report Posted November 1, 2013 Just to be clear, there was a light fixture on the deck post to the right of the damaged area. Nobody set up wires to electrocute Sammy the squirrel. I cropped the pic so it would be easier to see the damage to the wire. This was about 10' above the ground so the pic wasn't perfectly clear. Notice the heavy damage to the adjacent wiring and the post. These guys had been, uhhh, flossing their teeth here for a long time.
John Kogel Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 Right, I was just carrying on the thought process of a rodent deterrent. Joke. It does seem like an awful lot of heat was generated by that incident. Yes, I can picture a squirrel with his hair on fire up there. []
