Denray Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Same house. Sometimes my jippo tester barely shows a light on the far right, yet at other outlets its bright. Sometimes the far right is completely out. What's that all about? Click to Enlarge 34.55 KB Click to Enlarge 24.19 KB
John Kogel Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Faulty ground. What is actually faulty could be anything from corrosion in the wiring to bad contacts at the tester. You should carry more than one of those flaky testers.
rkenney Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Click to Enlarge 24.19 KB For a 110v circuit to show this result you have a hot/neutral reversed and an open ground. It may seem implausible since an open ground by itself gets only one yellow light but that is what got the result when i switched wires on an outlet to test. A 110 outlet wired for 240v also gets that result. Best course is to have a fallback tester, ie - multimeter or wiggy and check your results.
Denray Posted September 17, 2013 Author Report Posted September 17, 2013 I do carry a backup. Those two photos are in the same house. I went back and forth twice to be sure the tester was not at fault. Two or three outlets had that weak right light. Mfg home. Thanks everyone.
