Robert Jones Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Weird situation happened on an inspection yesterday. When I turned on the water at the meter, the second floor shower was running just fine. Then, suddenly, the water just stopped running from the shower head. I went to the first floor bathroom and checked that bath fixture and no water at the tub/shower. Weird thing, the sink and toilets worked just fine in both bathrooms. My initial thought was a blockage of some sort since the home had been vacant for almost two years. But, the branch lines are copper and not galvanized. Home was 100 years old, semi updated. Anyone have an answer for this one?
Jim Katen Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 The pressure-balancing shower valves kicked in and stopped all water flow, because the water heater's shut-off valve was turned off.
inspector57 Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Weird things happen when the system is not full of water. I would be suspecting air in the lines until proven otherwise.
Erby Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Go with Katen's answer. Had it happen several times when there are pressure balancing valves present.
Nolan Kienitz Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Go with Katen's answer. Had it happen several times when there are pressure balancing valves present. Assuming that there are single control valves installed. If traditional individual hot and cold valves are present I've seen different things.
Erby Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 I never assume, I always presume. So, what different things have you seen Nolan? Enlightenment please.
Nolan Kienitz Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 I never assume, I always presume. So, what different things have you seen Nolan? Enlightenment please. Only that there not not any pressure balancing valves present.
