Inspectorjoe Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 This is is new construction, but the house was sitting essentially completed when I inspected the one next door last October. There is a hairline crack that runs the length of the porch slab, directly above the stem wall. Is this a problem? Click to Enlarge 48.79 KB Click to Enlarge 41.56 KB
kurt Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Probably uncompacted fill under the concrete; the part over the stem wall is supported, the rest of it isn't. It's a problem, sort of, but it can't be fixed without busting it all out and starting over.
Inspectorjoe Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks for the reply, Kurt. I figured that was the cause. I was wondering if it was likely to get progressively worse, and eventually need replacement.
Inspectorjoe Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks. That's what I was looking for.
