John Kogel Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 A half-buried tank in the crawlspace?? I gave them the number for the guys that dig tanks out of the ground here, but they are machine operators, not groundhogs. I'm thinking two guys with mattocks could dig this tank free and yard it out with a come-along in a few hours. Am I nuts? Click to Enlarge 73.9 KB Click to Enlarge 53.54 KB Click to Enlarge 70.51 KB
Jim Katen Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Last time I saw one like that, they took it out with a cutting torch. I suggested a long chain and a hitch on a Bronco, but I was overruled.
Darren Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Gee, I hold it didn't leak. That would be a lot of hand digging.
Rob Amaral Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 The tank-removal guys around here use a 'jaws-of-life' metal-cutter to snip those apart in-situ... Don't forget to mention 'check for soil contamination' ... right.. ?

Don't forget to mention 'check for soil contamination' ... right.. ? Big tin snips, sounds like the way to go.The tank service company will clean up the site. That is their bread and butter. Rob, are you saying it could be deemed to be my fault if there is oil in the ground? I found the stupid thing. []
Rob Amaral Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 I don't know about 'your fault'.. but I'd simply add some comment to back-up your findings.. An empty steel tank that held water is not an environmental hazard... one that held oil 'could be'..
