Click to Enlarge 77.7 KB Click to Enlarge 35.45 KB Those are cluster flies. They're very common and quite harmless - aside from their great numbers. The usually gather themselves together in bunches, but sometimes, they burrow into insulation to pass through cold spells.

Stephen Lagueux Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Heard from an exterminator that in some part of the country, some houses can be infested by those flies during the winter months . He once removed houndreds of them from can lights.
Greg Booth Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 .............in the 70's I owned a country home with balloon framing. The old couple that originally owned the place, swept the attic floor clean of dead cluster flies into the wall cavities. When I stripped plaster from the main floor, the exterior walls were 3 feet deep with dead flies. I still remember the smell......Greg
