Erby Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Guess I just wasn't inspecting the right age of house lately. It's been a couple of years since I've seen any. Click to Enlarge 36.57 KB Click to Enlarge 53.25 KB Click to Enlarge 67.82 KB
AHI in AR Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 That panel looks amazingly fresh to be old enough to have aluminum branch circuit wiring.
Marc Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Don't see any corrosion or other indication of overheating. Maybe it's one of the later formulations that corrected the earlier issues with aluminum wiring. Marc
Scottpat Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 The stars must be in alignment! I had a monster home with aluminum wiring just yesterday. Built in 1968 it had 29 circuits with single strand alum cable. Even had added new AFCI breakers and connected the alum to the new breakers, which I do not believe were rated for alum wire. Actually out of the five outlets and switches I checked in the home none were rated for aluminum! They also had newer copper circuits intertwined in the mix. Needless to say it is all my fault according to the listing agent! She's a tad upset because the buyer opted to not buy the $2.1M house and moved to the next house on the list. What would it have cost to set the wiring right in the 2 M house? $2 G at the most? Somebody needs to work harder instead of trying to shoot the messenger.
Wasden Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Maybe that agent should revisit their "Realtor" code of ethics.
Erby Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 The panel was installed in 2007, along with some new circuits (copper in the picture). The existing wiring of the 1971 house was aluminum.
