AHI in AR Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Well, it's not rock as you'd find lying about on the ground. It's man-made faux stone created from concrete and other components. The installation details are entirely different. If your installers are of the same caliber that I often see here it's likely that it's not installed properly and water damage will result.
John Kogel Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Kevin, I think Denny is asking stupid questions for fun, eh? What looks worse, a faux stone chimney or a vinyl siding chimney?
Denray Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 I couldn't get to it. But I just wanted to ID the stone. I'm maybe 1/10th as smart as you guys at this stuff. Fortunately my competitors aren't that brilliant either.[:-paperba Click to Enlarge 83.67 KB
kurt Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 That looks like this stuff we called "cultured stone". It was one of the first faux stone materials, showed up back in the 80's. Really ugly and just as stupid.
Erby Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Denny, The Installation Guide for Adhered Concrete Masonry Veneer, 3rd edition can be found on the website of the Masonry Veneer Manufacturers Association. Make's it easier to pick it apart. I think page 54 has what you want. http://www.masonryveneer.org/pdf/MVMA%2 ... _Final.pdf
