John Dirks Jr Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 The winter air in my area is really dry and sucks moisture out of everything, including musty basements. Lately I've been thinking about how winter time can mask moisture problems in certain houses. Have you ever thought this way? What do you think and do say anything to clients about it?

You could always say, "winter time can mask moisture problems in certain houses."
kurt Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Then the client says "what about this house"?. If you know where and how to look, you can surmise if there are problems. Winter can be tricky, but not that tricky. There's a reason it's called Building Science and not Building Conjecture.

Just because the basement smells ok now does not mean it will when the summer's humidity returns.
