kurt Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Fragmented composition. Value delineation, by themselves, don't take me anywhere.
Les Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Mike, I have no idea what Kurt is talking about (big words). Because I think you are likely the most masterful photographer I know - not good.
kurt Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 He's pretty good. Fragmented composition = the parts don't work together, the eye is not led through the picture in a coherent manner. Values are lights and darks, i.e., whites, greys, blacks. Values are a critical component of composition; if they aren't composed well, the picture falls apart. (Hue is color, value is how deep the color is displayed. All pictures have values, but not all pictures have hue/color. Value is critically important.) For every decent painting I accomplish, there's about 10 lousy ones. Swings and misses.
Mike Lamb Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks. All comments are good. I liked the rust line on the fan housing. It looks like it is bleeding.
Les Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I cropped it to block out the arrow and it made it more pleasing to me. The rust line is really interesting, but as Kurt mentioned, the comp and lighting overpowered it. What ever happed to the cartoons??
Tom Raymond Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I think the t-stat cable spoils it. As an inspector you're not supposed to remove it, as an artist you owe it to your work.
Chad Fabry Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Tom Raymond took the words out of my mouth- The wire is what's disturbing. This is like the third time I've agreed w/ Tom in recent weeks. It makes me a little nervous.
Tim Maxwell Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I really enjoy your photo's Mike. My dislike for this one is, it just looks too familiar. Keep up the great work.
