hausdok Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Hi All, Has anyone seen one of these Rheem units yet? Seems like it would be an interesting choice. Induced draft with standard 3in or 4in. B-vent. Holds 29 gallons but has a first hour rating of 90 gallons and can recover 61 gph at .70EF. Certified for both potable water and/or hydronic heating and .17 lower operating costs than Rheem's standard 50-gallon model. All on a 17-3/4-inch footprint. Looks pretty good in the read up. Now I'm wondering what the catch is 'cuz I haven't seen a single one yet. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Tom Raymond Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 The catch is you can't buy one. Google it and all you get are the press releases.
Brandon Whitmore Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 I've seen them-- they're at NW Natural's appliance center: XR90 I think that small one had a 65,000 btu burner, while most standard 40/50 gal. units have 36-40k burners.
inspector57 Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 I saw a similar unit a few years ago that was touted to replace two 50 gallon units and seemed to work. I can't recall the brand name and have not seen one since. The one I saw operated at a much higher temperature and recovery rate but had a factory installed tempering valve on the output to reduce the temperature down to a safe level.
