Mark P Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 I have no idea what form this goes under. House built around 1933, in the basement utility room were the HVAC equipment has always been there is this small pipe coming through the front foundation wall. A funnel has been places under it along with a garden hose that leads over to the sump. What is / was this pipe for? My only guess is perhaps something left over from an old oil burner or old furnace system. I really don?t know but told the buyer I would try to find out. John Dirks Jr Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Any attic mounted air handlers? Maybe a condensate drain. Perhaps they took advantage of existing boiler pipe to provide route for condensate drainage to sump pit.

This pipe comes through the front foundation wall under the windoes to the right of the front door. There is living area above.
ericwlewis Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 could it be the old muni water supply?
John Kogel Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 could it be the old muni water supply? My thought as well. An abandoned supply pipe that is cut off outside would drip ground water now and then. That roof is so steep it almost falls over backwards. []
Neal Lewis Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 What is the depth of the galvanized pipe below ground? I usually find that the original galvanized water supply pipe is much deeper than necessary.
John Kogel Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 It could have been for a hose bib that was buried by a flower bed. Could be a gas pipe. Needs a cork.
Mark P Posted November 23, 2012 Author Report Posted November 23, 2012 I think John is right - the old supplly line. Thanks
