Rob Amaral Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Brand new Buderus oil-fired boiler... seepage at PRV valve onto vent.. All the work these guys put into designing the boiler and they build-in a problem... I've found a few of these totally corroded-through over the past years.. Click to Enlarge 52.55 KB
hausdok Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 That's a shame, I suspect though that it's a quality of work issue. I bet if you flew over to Germany and took a tour of a hundred basements to look at boilers you wouldn't be able to find a single one doing that. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
David Meiland Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 In a situation like that, I wonder if the installer needed another 1/2 or 3/4 turn on the PRV... but he didn't know if he could get another whole turn... and he wanted to line up over his preferred outlet pipe location... so he didn't quite get it tight enough. A connection like that is subject to a lot of hot/cold cycles and needs to be bulletproof.
John Kogel Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Right. I would blame the installer or maybe the supplier. Those fittings would probably be installed outside of the factory. Some cheap imported castings will leak no matter how well they are installed, such as some brass valves I've seen. The castings develop pinholes. [:-thumbd]
Tom Raymond Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 That definitely looks like a couple of poor quality fittings. The street ell is a mess.
