John Kogel Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Another dry day but it is a smoky one. I can't see the Olympics. Those Washington fires are getting serious. no?
Jerry Lozier Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Another dry day but it is a smoky one. I can't see the Olympics. Those Washington fires are getting serious. no? Yes they are John, http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/20 ... tain-fires I think they lost 61 homes in the Cle Elum fire that is out now a couple months ago. and smog looks like LA in the 1960's here.
kurt Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 I just finished a 3000 mile loop through the West, Yellowstone, and parts thereabouts. We passed fires all over the place; the one in Buffalo, WY is up to about 5000 acres, and they're just going to wait and hope the winter puts it out. I could see it from 100 miles away. A couple fires in Montana, near Livingston, and taking out entire valleys. Supposedly, WA has a few hundred fires going. It's a mess.
Robert Jones Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 I am in Spokane finishing up my AF Reserve year and it has been hazy here for the last week due to the fires. The middle of the State has been hit hard this year.
exploreparadise2 Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 I returned from a motorcycle ride in central Washington this week. The smoke made my eyes burn. Here's a shot of the Columbia River at the I-90 bridge taken at midday. Click to Enlarge 27.32 KB

My hometown is Plentywood and our farm (that I grew up on) was/is even a bit closer to Canada near a small community called: Outlook.
kurt Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 Not as close as I would have liked. We were more into WY and Bozeman/Livingston, and Yellowstone. Beautiful, wonderful, religious experience type country. Growing up there must have been something special.
