John Kogel
In Firefox, click on the doghouse (home), then click Add-ons. On that page, clicks Plug-ins, find Java, click disable. Thanks Ben. This is no hoax.

Douglas Hansen
A key point within that article: "One important note: Java should not be confused with Javascript. Disabling Javascript will result in a bunch of websites not working properly, and it won't do anything to address this threat." Many files (including the electronic versions of Code Check) cannot be read without first allowing an automatic javascript instruction to be executed. Nolan Kienitz
Oracle has been pushing "updates" to their application(s). All 3 of my laptops have received them over the past 2-3 days. BTW - no problems from the OP information, but it is always wise to double-check. Not all things are what they seem at times, but we do need to be careful.
