Jerry Simon Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 The screen-cap on the furnace combustion intake-air vent is charred/scorched/melted. Once-blocked, perhaps (though same should cause the furnace to shut-down)? Cause for concern? Click to Enlarge 29.93 KB
kurt Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 It can't be anything good....I'd put it in the report. Can only guess what caused it.
hausdok Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Some idiot testing to ensure there is inflow there by putting a butane torch flame above it? ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Marc Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Transitory back-draft at the end of each heat cycle? Marc
kurt Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Flames are backing up all the way through the tubes/clamshell, through the blower fan, and all the way to the intake....(?) I hope not.....
Marc Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Just heated air. It's a thin plastic grille, doesn't take much. Marc
hausdok Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Nah, If there were enough heat there to melt that plastic below that inlet the wiring and other stuff like the mother board would be toast. Someone held a flame directly over that long enough for it to get sucked downward. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
Rob Amaral Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 But isn't that inlet entering the 'burner-box' area? (Little viewport right there..) If in direct communication, this could be flame-roll-out... No?
kurt Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 You know, I was visualizing it wrong; could be flame rollout.
hausdok Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Yeah, might be. I was envisioning something else too. The last one of these Cat IV I had a week or so ago, the inlet was only to the enclosure and not all the way to the exchanger. According to the manual on the unit it was fine. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
