Denray Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 I know it must be caused from moisture, but what is that dark color at the bottom of the siding? Click to Enlarge 68.94 KB
inspector57 Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 Staining from dirt and rain water splashing up from the ground.
allseason Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 The gutter joint on the inside corner near the door is leaking causing the arched stained area below it. Likely the water is pulling the natural oils out of the cedar and turning it grey before the rest of the siding.
John Kogel Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 There are some good products out there that can clean that up. You brush it on and wash it off, cedar looks new again. The black on the upper siding could be an algae growth. We get a green algae here that turns black with age. It will wash off too.
Jim Baird Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Definite splatter factor. I noticed when in Mexico that a lot of buildings there were stuccoed with a wainscot height of an earthy brown coloring to minimize the splatter effect.
Denray Posted July 11, 2012 Author Report Posted July 11, 2012 Ok, the splatter causes it, but what is it? Is it a biological growth? Can it be removed?
