allseason
Is supplying a toilet with hot water allowable? Does it sound like a bad idea? This is in a single family and it's in a basement bathroom. No heat in the bathroom but the adjoining room is heated.
Jerry Simon
Is supplying a toilet with hot water allowable? Does it sound like a bad idea? This is in a single family and it's in a basement bathroom. No heat in the bathroom but the adjoining room is heated. I've heard folk do such to help prevent the toilet from sweating. Never stared at one for long enough to know if it works, though.
Mark P
I do not see where it is prohibited - but seems stupid. I think at best the water might be warm by the time the toilet was full and then cool down to room temp pretty quick.
rkenney
Would be great when your taking a nice hot shower and somebody flushes a toilet? Doubt if it would help the lifespan of all those cheap plastic flush & fill valves. My vote 'stupid.'
hoosier inspector
I have come across this twice. I just note it in the report. I spoke with one of the occupants and they did not realize it until they had a party, and it was flushed several times in a row. It steams your buns (pun intended). I wonder what the melting point of the wax ring is?
Greg Booth
..........I've seen the use of mixing valves to temper the water fed to the tank - especially when the potable water is cold well or spring water. But never all hot.........Greg.
John Kogel
Flush toilet, wait 2 minutes, take shower, water is hot. Sounds good to me. [] Most likely it was a mistake and I'll bet there is a reversed hot/cold somewhere in those walls.
Marc
A HUD-Code home that my family moved into when I was a pre-teen had the hot water connected to the main bath toilet. I was the first to flush it and when I did, steam rose from the bowl. The olfactories really take a hit when a toilet flushes with hot water. Nolan Kienitz
Was doing a final on a new home final, years ago, "out in the county". One of the many things wrong was the hot water to the toilets. I told the client they could steam hot-dogs in the tank. [:-slaphap
Erby
Warm water to the toilet can prevent condensation on the outside of the toilet but why use ALL hot, just use a tempering valve, if condensation is a problem.
