Mike Lamb Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 This is a 10 year old Lennox cast iron boiler. These outside sections have excessive rust for a relatively new boiler in my opinion. How serious is this? How would you write this up? Click to Enlarge 49.3?KB Click to Enlarge 44.25?KB Click to Enlarge 48.5?KB Click to Enlarge 39.9 KB
Rob Amaral Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Need more photos Mike.. First photo looks like exhaust-gas leakage (a vertical 'plume..') Did you put a mirror near those areas to see if exhaust-gas was condensing on your mirror? I.E., could be 'draft-related'...
ghentjr Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Looks like the boiler castings sweat when it is shut down for the summer. They also may leak just a tad due to contraction. Common when a separate water heater is used. The owners can keep it on very low to prevent any leakage and keep the castings tight.
Mike Lamb Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 Thanks. I was thinking leaks and did not consider drafting issues. An HVAC pro will check it out.
