Charles Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Good morning. On yesterdays inspection I discovered a home where the small label on the outside edge of the breakers were "fuzzy". I cant imagine why this would occur other than maybe moisture. Thoughts. Thanks in advance. Charles Click to Enlarge 96.47 KB
Jim Katen Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Some breakers have a label at that spot, but on these breakers, it's some kind of plaster-like substance. It covers a screw (just as the labels do on other breakers). I suppose it's there to prevent or discourage someone from messing with the screw or mistaking it for a wiring connection. Every so often someone encounters the condition in your picture and asks about it. As far as I can remember we've never come to a conclusion about why it does that or whether or not it's a bad thing.
Chad Fabry Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 I've seen it on Square D breakers. I submitted a photo to square D and they replied that it was a non-issue.
