Good morning.

On yesterdays inspection I discovered a home where the small label on the outside edge of the breakers were "fuzzy". I cant imagine why this would occur other than maybe moisture.

Thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Some breakers have a label at that spot, but on these breakers, it's some kind of plaster-like substance. It covers a screw (just as the labels do on other breakers). I suppose it's there to prevent or discourage someone from messing with the screw or mistaking it for a wiring connection. Every so often someone encounters the condition in your picture and asks about it. As far as I can remember we've never come to a conclusion about why it does that or whether or not it's a bad thing.
